I have been invited to attend a festival of Improvisation happening in Lublin (Poland) October 12-13th. I will be giving an improvised performance as well as running workshops on improvising and being part of a panal discussion on improvisation. I am very excited and expect to encounter the unexpected 🙂

Know Yourself

know yourself

"To thine on self be true" - Shakespeare
"The unexamined life is not worth living" - Socrates
"Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom" - Aristotle

This question of 'knowing myself' has for as long as I can remember been in my mind.
Who am I? etc. For me know I can see an important difference between thinking about life
and the particulars of the moment, compared to the direct experience. To my understanding
this is the key to 'knowing ourselves'. The thought's of who we are, or should be, and
how that can be built on the belief that there's something missing, or wrong, turn
out to be just thoughts. And all the while the direct experience of life in the
particulars of the moment are available for everyone always, something that is reliable.

Knowing myself then becomes about 'experiencing myself' rather than 'thinking myself'.

I'd much rather eat a biscuit rather than just think about a biscuit, and I'd much
rather experience my life rather than just think about it. I see this as leading to
the true knowing of ourself and the beginning of all wisdom.

What do you think?

Revolution Music Video

Music video for Revolution from Hammering Nails into the Sky

I was invited to watch a friends dance performance group called ProtoCiało and I thought it had something so raw and precious that I really wanted to collabourate. The group was really genorous and agreed to put the video material of their performance with the Revolution song. Ewa Podig filmed and edited the video, and here it is in all it’s black and white glory 🙂

TV interview with Terry Clark-Ward on “5 O´Clark”

Sam Alty met with Terry Clark-Ward for an interview on his TV series called 5 O´Clark

Sam talks about his interest in music and dance, as well as his move from New Zealand to Poland.  Walking around one of his favourite places they discuss his love for the Polish way of life and they also discuss what the future holds.

A great day was had by everyone, the team were fantastic to work with. There’s also a lot of slightly manic over tired hysteria, but all good fun, and everyone’s really happy with the result.

Enjoy!
